Antony Micallef
British artist Antony Micallef merges imagery from fashion magazines, japanese cartoons, adverts, and old master paintings to create dreamlike paintings that offer a harsh criticism of consumerism. He was runner-up in the National Portrait Gallery's BP/Amaco portrait of the year prize in 2000. The work of micallef balances society’s disgust of consumerism with their weakness to be seduced by it.
