David Ellis

David Ellis lives and works in Brooklyn; where his "motion paintings" travel through time like music, where beats are orchestrated and performed on "drum paintings" stretched and tuned to bass, snare, etc. and played via analogue drum machines propelled by air, where player pianos meet SP1200s meet improvisational wild style sign painting.
His first solo-exhibition in New York, Like the Motion of Water, was presented by Jessica Murray Projects (2002). He has also been selected for solo-exhibitions at Tidal, Osaka and Gas Experiment, Tokyo. His work has been included in exhibitions at Gale Gates, Smack Mellon, Downtown Arts Festival (New York); and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco). His public art projects can be seen on industrial buildings in Brooklyn, tobacco barns in Cameron, North Carolina, and on the exteriors of Mo Jo Trucking vehicles. He is also the founder of an artists' collaborative team called The Barnstormers. Ellis' work has been featured in ID, Paper, ArtForum, and Flash Art. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
