Rooslinky

I am fascinated by movement and light. I aim to capture these fundamental physical forces in my work.

I see my potential subjects hidden in shapes and patterns in many different materials, a piece of fabric, plastic or broken glass. When I see the hint of a subject that captures my interest I take a photograph and use it as a backdrop to my painting. I use acrylic paint which I apply with brushes, rags and my fingers, painting the subject into life as I see it, leaving the original photograph as a part of the final painting. If I am inspired by a film or a particular place that I visit here or abroad, soon afterwards I will start to see the related subjects appearing in shadows, reflections and patterns.

Over the last 10 years I have developed a way of capturing my intended subject photographically, while developing a painting technique that allows me to express the subject as I originally envisaged. This leaves the viewer to decide their own interpretation.

Most people comment that the more they look at my pictures the more fascinating they become, the more they see my intentions or even images of their own. I suppose that is the ultimate measure of any good art. The more you know, it the stronger your feelings for it.

Once I have finished painting I apply a first coat of varnish to protect the work, I then stretch the canvas, finally applying a second coat of varnish.
